Bodies, Bodies, Everywhere!

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT IN THIS POST
DO NOT SCROLL DOWN IF YOU'RE SQUEAMISH ABOUT THE HUMAN BODY, AND DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU!
Alright, now that you've been warned, I can give you a little re-cap of my dad's and my adventure to see Body Worlds: Pulse.
We hopped on the Metro (L.A's subway) and headed towards the museum, which is next to the U.S.C. campus. I missed the exhibit when it was in Sacramento, so when Dad asked if I wanted to go, I jumped at the opportunity! After all, this was a great opportunity to get reference photos for figure drawing, on which I really need to start brushing up! (SO rusty!)

As we entered the exhibit, I couldn't help but reflect how far we've come in terms of what we've learned about the human body, and what a fight those first explorers had against the Church and the mores of the day. (Dissect a human, go to jail!)
I'm not going to enter a lot of tet here. I'll just let you scroll through and see the amazing machine the human body is!
Yes, that is his own skin he's holding.

The teensy-weensy bones in your ear!

The "Tai Chi Guy," as he's called, was an example of hip, knee, and shoulder replacement surgeries, all of which I will undoubtedly need in twenty years or so!
The guy below sure had a lot of nerve! *rimshot*
One of the things I enjoyed about the exhibit was the effect of modern life on our bodies. Overindulgence, under-exercise, stress, computers and all that good stuff can have a detrimental effect, and seeing the results, preserved, was fascinating!
All the blood vessels in the body! WOW!
You know you're a haunter when all you can see is the bad
tombstone behind the awesome corpse!
The exhibit is so large, it has to be displayed in sections. So Dad and I went to the next section, weaving in and among the school kids out on their field trips.
This female swimmer was cut in half to show all the organs.
Oh, and if you're still a smoker, check out the pictures below.
The figure below was incredibly impressive in person. "The Gymnast" holds his lungs and other internal organs above his head while balancing on three wooden orbs. The artistry in the exhibit was, I feel, most obvious in this creative presentation!

A bit of "Boy's Night Out" whimsy.
Passing the Ace
It was, all in all, a grand day out!
