Hispanic Hallowe'en

Some of you never had the privilege of getting smacked with a chancla when you disobeyed or didn't keep things clean, and it shows. (To be honest, my mom used everything but the chancla, scarring me for life, but that's beside the point.)

In any case, the threat of the chancla will keep anyone in line. And I mean anyone.

Stewie is in the House

Always the first to creep from the darkness to his rightful place in front of the house, Stewie made his appearance right on schedule. Other denizens have been spotted, too.
They're awaiting their brethren (and sistren!) eagerly. Outside, Stewie has been joined by Gnorman's head, which is all that is left of our dearly departed Gnorman. Oskar is awaiting his turn in the spotlight, which once again, will probably include a window display.

Ghoul Friday's Brains Vs. Coffee is my seasonal coffee table book, and is now on the den's coffee table. It's a cute conversation piece and makes my friends roll their eyes. Her Bluebird of Unhappiness (my title, not hers) plague doctor has nested on my mantelpiece, and surveys all around him with either avidity or disdain, I'm not sure which.

There are more to follow, and one thing is sure:

They will be creepy.

Great Pumpkin Gift

The day before Halloween, one of my young helpers came by the house with a gift for me. Of course, she called first and teased me by telling me she had a Halloween gift for me-one that she said she made just for me. Of course I was intrigued. I mean, who doesn't want a Halloween gift made just for them?

I really didn't have any clue what it could be, so when she showed up with this painting and unveiled it with a flourish, I was pumped!
Since I took one photo of it with the flash and one without, I posted both, to give you an idea of what it looks like.

Honestly, though, the pictures don't do it justice. It looks far better in person. I plan to hang it in my home office, once I finish that project.

This young lady did some great work, and reminded me why it is so important to donate to the high school art department. She's a sophomore at the high school, and if this painting is any indication, an artist to watch in the future.
