Really Need to Get Going!

...on my Sam prop. One of the neighborhood kids stood for a tape dummy for me, and he was the perfect size for Sam, and delighted to be a part of it!


Oh, well. Maybe after West Coast Haunters Convention! Now, get some stuff into the glaze firing so I can bring 'em to WCHC; I'm flying out on Thursday, so they need to get done.

Trick 'r Treat is ever my inspiration. I would love my walkway to look like this come Hallowe'en 2012. Love the book even more. The illustrations are so very rich!

First Prop of 2012

One of the neighborhood boys loves my Hallowe'en display so much, he plays in the graveyard every year. Last year, I asked if he'd mind if I made a tape dummy of him, and he jumped at the chance. It was so great to see his eyes just shining and happy as he stalked around in it before I cut it off him!


Now, with any luck, I'll start feeling well enough to start putting the new prop together. In case you hadn't already guessed, it's going to be "Sam" from Trick 'R Treat.


I know some of you have already made this prop. Any suggestions on what form to use for the head? Styrofoam ball or--?

News From the Nest

Hi, All! Just a little personal update and a pretty cool heads-up for horror fans.

First, Amazon is having a sale on horror dvds, so if you want to pick up Trick 'r Treat for a song, now's the time! They also have some great Vincent Price collections, the 25th anniversary edition of Poltergeist, and a ton more, just to make it that much easier for us to stay in the Halloween mood this month!

In other news, it turns out that I don't, in fact, have to quit school entirely. I'm dropping my second class of the day, which allows me to stay in  my alternative firing class and get home by noonish, so my idiot dog doesn't destroy his pen and give himself another few injuries in the process. I'm relieved and excited, because this also means that I can enter my sculpture in to be reviewed for the Crocker Art Museum. I know there are a lot of artists far more talented than I, but I still hope to squeak in there. The dog, btw, is doing well enough that we have to keep a close watch on his activity so he doesn't hurt himself more.

Meanwhile, my stint up at Jack Russell Brewery is going well. My mini-pumpkins have been selling, and I have added some mini-ghosts, too. It occurred to me that if I have some of these things available at the end of the weekend, I'll put them up on Etsy, including my pumpkin-headed ghost. Whatever doesn't sell by Friday will come back to Jack Russell with me. That way, if any of you all want something, you have a shot at getting it!

The cyclops, btw, is a hanger, and larger than my usual pumpkins.

A Treat from Trick 'R Treat

Like many of you, I rented Trick 'R Treat the day it came out and was blown away by the film. I watched it, watched all the extras, then watched it again with the commentary on.

I debated with myself about the purchase, however. I have a Blu-Ray player at home-this movie is amazing to watch on Blu-Ray, BTW-but I like to take movies along when we travel and play them on my laptop. My laptop isn't equipped with Blu-Ray.

Blu-Ray or regular DVD? The debate raged for days. Finally, at the urging of my husband, I caved and bought the Blu-Ray.

I just opened it yesterday. Inside was an unexpected treat: A little flyer inside announced that I could download a free digital copy of Trick 'R Treat to my computer! Hooray for me! I now have both Blu-Ray and a copy to take on trips!

In addition, there's a $25 gift card inside from Sideshow Collectibles towards the purchase of a toy they have listed-sadly, not the 15" figure of Sam.

Because I am an absolute dork, I got the hardcover book delving into the four stories of the movie, apparently with input from Michael Dougherty, the writer and director of the film. It hasn't arrived, yet, but I should get it any day now. I also ordered the paperback graphic novel, and love, love, love the artwork! I may get the movie poster to hang my studio portion of the Garage of Doom, too. I've been playing the soundtrack for inspiration, too. Fun stuff!

Of course, I'll be referencing the photo below for pumpkin designs this year, just because.
