The Scarecrow Bash

I was browsing around for scarecrow images to share, and ran across this article about the Scarecrow Bash. The author seems very nostalgic of the idea of the village and the sense of community it once had, and I think those of us in the States-at least those in the larger cities-can sympathize with his feelings, though we have likely never lived in anything as small as a village.

My own town boasts between 60,000 and 70,000 people, a big change from L.A. County's 9,848,011. We have more of a sense of community here. At last, Folsom has a FallFest, complete with a pumpkin carving contest. I'm hoping to talk someone into doing a food drive like this one here in town, to encourage Halloween decorating and help the food bank just before the holidays. Let's face it, though, it's all about getting people to decorate, because Spider Rider and I just can't represent the Hallowe'en Spirit all by ourselves!

  1. I wish you the best of luck. I sure wish my town had a Halloween decorating contest!

  2. What a cool image! Unfortunatley, around my town that would probably be considered a fire hazard. Sounds like a great idea with the food drive- and I'm sure you could probably pull out some closet decorators in the process. Sometimes all they need is an excuse.

  3. Its sad, there are a lot of towns that seem to have lost that sense of community and sometimes even doing a contest and collecting donations for a good cause isnt even enough to bring that spirt back. I had two neighbors last year that actually roped off there walkways and doors to prevent tots from coming by. Hopefully us haunters can keep doing our parts to give halloween its due and get people back into the spirit of decorating and celebrating sych an awesome holiday!
